Founded in Sheffield in 1778, this precision-engineering business makes components for the aerospace, automotive and construction markets. The company employs 5,000 people across Europe, America, Mexico and China and it has recently opened a new research and development facility in Droitwich. Doncasters has been owned by Dubai International Capital since 2006. Chairman and chief executive Tariq Jesrai, 55, reported sales of £741m in 2012.
