Celebrity fans including Rihanna and model Agyness Deyn have signalled the return to fashion of Dr Martens boots after six tough years in the early 2000s. Led by chief executive David Suddens, the Northamptonshire-based company puts its growth down to launching new types of footwear and opening 14 stores between 2009 and 2011. It now has eight in the UK, six in the US and two in Asia, and is planning to open a further 34 outlets in the next five years. Profits increased by 107% a year, from £2.1m in 2008 to £18.8m in 2011.
