This company provides the technology to run the heating system on Airbus’s new A380 super-jumbo plane that will carry 550 passengers. Dunlop Standard Aerospace also makes wheels and braking systems, researches fluid dynamics, produces composite materials and services aircraft engines, capitalising on the trend for military and commercial operators to outsource their repair needs. A separate division, Dunlop Standard Energy, builds gas-turbine generators. The group’s sales climbed to £457m in 2003. Its owner, Doughty Hanson, is thought to be in talks to sell the company for between £800m and £900m.
