Airlines, trains and buses use this Peterborough company’s lighter, more durable version of leather for seating and furnishings, leading to savings on maintenance costs as well as on weight and therefore fuel bills. Invented by the late Chris Bevan in the UK in 1995, the material is made from natural leather fibres. Strong demand from transport operators as well as a £5m investment from the Environmental Technologies Fund in May last year helped the firm, led by chief executive Chris McBean, 56, achieve sales of £12.6m in 2014.
