Simon Burnett was just 25 when he persuaded the owners of a vacant lot in London’s Islington to let him use the space for car parking in 1993. Later joined by his brother, Angus, and their father, Simon has built up a network of prime sites in central London, using a variety of property contacts to find out about vacant lots ahead of the competition. Enviable locations, together with good service – the company offers car-park users free oil and water checks and free umbrellas when it rains – have driven up company sales by 96% a year, from £610,000 in 1996 to £4.6m in 1999. Eaton, which has added a petrol station in Chelsea and self-storage units to its operations, appears in the Fast Track 100 league table for the second year running.
