Dale Vince, 55, founded Ecotricity in 1995 as the world’s first green electricity company. It now derives some 40% of its energy from wind turbines and solar “sun parks,” and since 2010 has been supplying green gas from food waste. The Stroud firm says its “electric highway” of 300 charging points at UK service stations is Europe’s largest, and its pioneering ecobond scheme has raised £38m to date. Ecotricity plans to build a 100 acre sports and green technology ecopark next to the M5, and it has developed technology for a grass-fed green gas mill, which when built will be the first facility of its kind in the country.
