Ed’s Easy Diner opened its doors in London’s Soho in 1987 but remained a small business until taken over by new management six years ago. The retro- American chain now has 50 diners and Shake Stands in busy shopping centres, transport interchanges and sites that are popular with tourists. New store openings helped sales grow to £36.5m this year and its loyalty club has more than 1m active members. The company is led by chairman Stephen Greene, 67, and chief executive Andrew Guy, 67, and the new chief executive designate Ivan Schofield, 48, joined in September. The business is reported to be up for sale and is expected to change hands for more than £100m.
