Edward Billington gave his name to this Liverpool company in 1858, when he founded a sugar and coffee importer. Today the group’s interests are more diverse. Its subsidiaries include the English Provender Company, a condiment specialist, and Wholesome Sweeteners, which provides organic substitutes for sugar. Other subsidiaries include Criddle & Co, which sells ingredients for animal feed, and the agricultural supplier Carrs Billington Agriculture. Still family-owned, Edward Billington & Son achieved sales of £150.2m in 2006 under chairman Lloyd Whiteley.
