When the BBC staged Test the Nation, an IQ test on television last year, Empower Interactive’s technology was behind the 26m text messages sent in. The same technology allows ITV’s Who Wants to be a Millionaire to be played on mobile phones. Empower Interactive has raised £20m from investors, and its sales have risen 116% a year from £648,000 in 2001 to £3m in 2003. The company made a substantial loss but expects to break even next year.
