Energis provides telecoms and internet services to leading British businesses such as the BBC and Tesco. It claims to host more than 20,000 commercial websites and to route 437m call minutes per week through its network. The company was delisted from the London Stock Exchange in July 2002 when it was acquired by Chelys, a company set up by Energis’s banks to prevent its collapse. It reported sales of £694m in 2002 but made a huge operating loss of £438m.
