This software developer gained its first big contract from the American networking giant Cisco. “They came to us because we write software faster than our competitors and we always meet our deadlines,” says Nigel Ratcliffe, who founded the firm with John Cooper in 1997. “That gives you an edge in this industry.”
Ensoft, based at Harpenden, Hertfordshire, has overcome the shortage of skilled IT staff by recruiting bright graduates and training them in-house. Its sales have grown 196% a year, from £231,000 in 1998 to £2m in 2000.
