Despite his wife’s misgivings, Nicholas Spooner gave up a highly paid job in IT sales to found a digital media agency in 1997. He got off to a flying start when he won a commission from Eagle Star Direct to design Britain’s first online motor insurance website. Today the firm’s clients include Deutsche Bank Offshore and Zurich Commercial. Sales have increased by 158% a year, from £1.3m in 1998 to £8.3m in 2000. Spooner recently left the firm.
