Managing director Roger Bamford, 49, used a redundancy package from Yorkshire Electricity to start this electrical engineering business in 2002. The company designs, connects and manages high-voltage electrical systems for clients including developers, solar farms and private networks. Large contracts, such as a £4.5m project to connect the 50MW West Raynham solar farm to the National Grid, helped ESM to boost sales to £9.4m this year. Based in Scunthorpe, it is forecasting sales of £11.5m next year, despite the cut in subsidies for renewable projects, and plans to expand into continental Europe and America.
