More teaching is being done digitally, thanks to companies like Espresso Education, a provider of educational content. The London firm says it delivers multimedia resources to 8,000 schools each week by broadband, for a reported £6 per child a year. Founded in 1997 by former Blue Peter editor Lewis Bronze, and managed by Richard McGrath, Espresso recently acquired the e-learning company Netmedia Education and secured investment from ITN. The number of schools it supplies has risen eightfold since 2003, boosting sales 48% a year from £2m in 2003 to £4.3m in 2005.
