Direct Line founder Sir Peter Wood, 72, set up this Surrey-based insurer in 2000 to provide car and home insurance online. It is best known for its pink Sheilas’ Wheels brand aimed at female drivers, which offers handbag cover of up to £300. The company listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2013, but was taken private last August when Bain Capital acquired it in a deal valuing esure at £1.2bn. Wood continues to lead the firm as chairman.
