This Warrington firm recycles more than 10m tons of metal a year, from cars, fridges, electrical goods and other waste. It has 150 facilities worldwide, including 75 in the UK, and is building a plant in Birmingham that turns waste into energy, allowing it to divert 500,000 tons of rubbish a year from landfill. Led by Chris Sheppard, 38, a member of the founding family, the company raised its sales 25% to £3bn in 2011.
