Expansys

After a 12-month buying spree that led to the acquisition of Mobile Planet in America and Nomatica in France, the online electronics retailer Expansys is looking to the booming American and Far East markets for growth. A near-insatiable demand for wireless technology is driving sales in China of its bestselling smartphones i-mate, HTC and Ubiquio, which are expected to contribute £5m to sales in the current year. The company was founded by technical director Matt Kydd in 1998 and is co-owned by chief executive Roger Butterworth. Its sales have risen 82% a year from £5.9m in 2002 to £35.7m in 2005.
