Top Track 250

A Val d’Isère ski slope, La Face, inspired the name of this clothing retailer which was launched in 1988 by Jules Leaver and Tim Slade. The pair decided that it would be a good idea to sell T-shirts to help fund their skiing activities. Based in Hampshire, with more than 200 shops across Britain, Ireland and America, it is led by chief executive Anthony Thompson, 54, who is stepping down in January, and chairman Lord Rose, 69. Sales rose 7% to £238.1m in 2018, with online sales rising 12% and five new stores opening in America. Its reported profits are before depreciation and amortisation.
