Grimsby, renowned for its fish, is home to Young’s Bluecrest, which claims to be Britain’s leading supplier of frozen seafood and the inventor of scampi. The company is owned by its management and the private-equity house Capvest, which this year also bought Findus, the Swedish frozen-food specialist. Young’s, dating from 1805 when Elizabeth Martha began selling fish she caught in the Thames, is run by chief executive Wynne Griffiths and has 4,700 employees. Turnover rose to £496m in 2005.
