Originally famous for its potted shrimps, Young’s also reckons it invented scampi. Established in 1805, the Grimsby group sells 12m of its Admiral’s Pie ready meals each year. It is the UK market leader with a 30% share of the UK’s frozen and chilled seafood sector. The modern company was formed in a 1999 merger of Bluecrest Seafood and Young’s, and is backed by the American private-equity firm CapVest. Its sales totalled £365m in 2003.
