Husband-and-wife team Tim and Kit Kemp, 72 and 68, opened their first boutique London hotel in 1985. Seven more have followed, with Kit designing the award-winning interiors. In 2009, they opened the Crosby Street Hotel, their first in New York, followed in 2017 by the Whitby Hotel in Manhattan. The Whitby generated revenues of £18m in its first 11 months, boosting group international sales to £44.7m in 2018.
