The serial entrepreneur Firoz Kassam is not only chairman of Oxford United Football Club. He also owns a chain of Holiday Inn hotels in London, and a multiplex cinema, the Ozone near Oxford. Heythrop Park, another of his ventures, is a luxury hotel and conference centre in Oxfordshire housed in a Grade II listed mansion. Since acquiring the hotel, he has invested £20m of his own funds in the 500-acre site, and is planning further upgrades such as an 18-hole golf course and spa centre. The company’s sales have risen 66% a year from an annualised £955,000 in 2000 to £4.4m in 2003.
