Thresher Group bought 200 Unwins stores after that firm went into administration in December 2005. Chief executive Roger Whiteside hopes to rebrand the stores this year as Thresher, Wine Rack or The Local. The Hertfordshire company posted annualised sales of £772m in 2005, with operating losses of £12m. Terra Firma, the private- equity firm, bought Thresher in 2000.
