Founded in the early 1800s, Sheffield firm Firth Rixson makes forged-metal parts at 12 factories in Britain, America, China and Hungary. Its products end up in aircraft, gas turbines and trucks and it now employs almost 2,000 people. Oak Hill Capital Partners, a private equity house, bought a majority stake for £945m in 2007. David Mortimer is chief executive.
