Frank Michael Conway started this highways contractor in 1961 — twenty years later, his son, Michael Conway, took over the business, aged 26, and developed it into what it is today. The company mainly works for public sector bodies such as Transport for London, and this year won a five-year contract to maintain the bridges over the Medway at Rochester, including the iconic Grade II-listed Old Bridge. Sales rose 42% to £234.5m this year after a number of long term maintenance contracts were secured, including one with the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
