Fork Rent hires out machines such as telehandlers, excavators and forklift trucks. The Ipswich business invested in 700 new machines in 2012, and last year agreed to buy another 900 from JCB, at a cost of £53m. The second-generation family business is owned by Guy Nicholls, 51, and his sister Trudi, 54. In 2011 they appointed managing director Elaine Miller, and profits increased to £6.8m in 2013.
