Fullgreen sells rice alternatives, made using vegetables such as cauliflower, in UK supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Asda. Founder and chief executive Gem Misa, 41, was previously a global brand manager at Unilever and was named a UK ‘export food pioneer’ by secretary of state Liz Truss. The company says its products are also sold in over 5,000 stores across the US including in Walmart and Kroger, and is set to expand to the UAE through Carrefour and the Middle East supermarket chain Spinneys. It has raised $6.1m across six Crowdcube fundraising rounds, and is forecasting sales of £4.3m this year, up from an annualised £2.6m in December 2018. The firm plans to launch plant-based breakfast and risotto products by next year.
