Gala Coral is one of Europe’s biggest betting and gaming operations, with annualised sales of £1.2bn in 2012, up 4%. Earlier this year the company sold 19 of its 23 UK casinos to rival Rank for £179m, to focus on running its 144 bingo halls and its betting shops, of which it has more than 2,000 in the UK and Italy. The deal also enables the Nottingham company to reduce its debts, which currently stand at £2.4bn. Gala Coral is led by group chief executive Carl Leaver, 45.
