This gaming operator has profited from bingo’s enduring popularity in recent years, and recently returned the favour by making one of its customers the world’s first bingo millionaire. Gala Coral is majority owned by Candover, Cinven and Permira, which created it in 2005 by backing bingo and casino concern Gala Group’s acquisition of the high-street and online betting operation Coral Eurobet for £2.2 billion. The smoking ban has hurt business and the company’s private-equity owners reportedly agreed to inject £125m to help pay down debt. Sales for 2007 reached £1,310m under chief executive Neil Goulden.
