Glasgow’s GAP hires out construction tools and equipment such as dumpers and mechanical diggers to house builders and contractors, including Balfour Beatty and Scottish Power. It also invested in non-mechanical plant, such as fencing and acrow support props, and created a lifting division in 2010. The performance of this business and a recovery of the construction sector led to profits of £10.7m in 2013. The family-firm is run by Douglas and Iain Anderson, 58 and 55 respectively, sons of the founder, Gordon.
