A record 36m passengers passed through Gatwick airport in its last financial year, which the company says strengthens its case for a second runway. The airport, 29 miles south of London, has been shortlisted by the government alongside Heathrow for Britain’s next new runway. A consortium led by Global Infrastructure Partners acquired the company in 2009 for a reported £1.5bn. Stewart Wingate, 43, is chief executive.
