Brother and sister Graeme and Gillian Riley set up this specialist glass-handling equipment manufacturer 11 years ago, using £5,000 prize money from winning the 1994 European Formula Ford championship. The Oldham company sells and hires out a range of machines for fitting glass to buildings, such as Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and the Liverpool Arena. A separate division sells mini-cranes made by the Japanese firm Unic. The construction boom and widespread use of glass in modern buildings have helped to push up the company’s sales 59% a year from £2m in 2003 to £7.9m in 2006.
