Managing director Chris Lay remortgaged his house to launch Gigasat in 2000. The Bedfordshire company develops satellite communications equipment, such as lightweight, carbon-fibre antennas, and vehicles installed with satellite systems. Clients include the news channels CNN and Al Jazeera, which use Gigasat technology for live television coverage. The equipment has also been adopted by the government and military for secure satellite transmissions. Sales have grown 67% a year from £2m in 2003 to £5.7m in 2005.
