The vehicle-mounted satellite dishes relaying live television coverage from news hotspots for CNN and Al Jazeera have been developed by this Hertfordshire company. Gigasat designs and manufactures lightweight, carbon-fibre antennas used for broadcasting, and created a helicopter-based system for Norway’s TV2. The technology has also been adopted by governments and the military for secure satellite communications. A growing order book, with customers as far afield as China and Ethiopia, has helped founder and managing director Chris Lay grow the company’s sales 56% a year from £4.4m in 2004 to £10.8m in 2006.
