The serial entrepreneur Remo Dipre has made no secret of his plans to turn his third business, Gladedale, into one of Britain’s top five housebuilders. A series of acquisitions, including the £72m purchase of Country & Metropolitan last year, has given the Epsom company a strong presence in northern and southern England and an entry into the fast-growing market for low-cost housing. Its high-profile projects include the development of a former Yorkshire Chemicals site in the heart of Leeds. And last year it launched a joint venture with Bank of Scotland to develop Edinburgh’s Quartermile area. Gladedale’s sales have risen 93% a year from £65.9m in 2002 to £474.9m in 2005.
