Serial entrepreneur Remo Dipre has not lost his appetite for the game. His third company, housebuilder Gladedale, took listed rival Country & Metropolitan private for £72m this year. It also acquired a 50% stake in a joint venture with Bank of Scotland to develop Edinburgh’s Quartermile. This will see the area around the Royal Infirmary developed for mixed leisure, retail and office use. Gladedale’s acquisitiveness, combined with diversification into mixed-use development and larger projects, including the £120m development of upmarket flats near London City Airport, have boosted sales 127% a year, from an annualised £30m in 2001 to £348.3m in 2004. Significant growth in sales is also expected this year.
