Few people have had a rollercoaster career to equal that of Remo Dipre. In 1989 his ownership of Hawthorn Leslie, a telecoms service provider, earned him a place in The Sunday Times Rich List.
A few years later he had lost it all.
Now Dipre is on the way up again, thanks to his third company Gladedale, the holding company for a number of regional housebuilders that he founded in 1992. Dipre’s fondness for takeovers has led to significant sales and profit growth at Epsom-based Gladedale. In June 2000 the company acquired AIM-listed Furlong Homes for £24m, funding the deal with bank loans.
It also set up Castlegait Homes as a joint venture with Kilmartin Property in January 2002.
Profits at the group have rocketed 141% a year from £979,000 in 1999 to £13.7m in 2002.
