Glyn Webb Wallpapers has grown 66.5% year on year since 1994 and increased turnover from £5.4m in 1994 to £24.8m in 1997. The retailer of do-it-yourself products such as paints, wallpaper, and home furnishings employed 447 full- and part-time workers at the end of 1997, up from 40 employees just four years ago. Established by chief executive Frank Cohen, at the tender age of 20, the Lancashire-based retailer is pushing hard to become nation-wide by the year 2000. With 19 stores as of publication, it opened ten stores in the last three years and another four this year – all funded internally. It plans to add ten more by the end of next year. It ranked seventy-two on last year’s league table.
