Oxford graduates Hiroki Takeuchi, 31, Tom Blomfield, 33, and Matt Robinson, 31, set up GoCardless in 2011 to make direct debit payment methods accessible to more companies, and simplify the process for others. The London company now employs 120 staff and processes more than $3bn of direct debit payments each year for more than 25,000 businesses across Europe, ranging from sole traders to large companies such as Thomas Cook and TripAdvisor. It has raised £20m in venture capital funding, with investors including Notion Capital and Accel Partners. Sales hit £6m last year after the company won new clients by word of mouth and referrals.
