When brothers Keith, Graham and Eric Potts launched their recruitment website in 1995 they had a struggle on their hands as the general public knew little about the internet. At the time Britain had only 40,000 internet users, and selling advertising space to agencies was a struggle. Keith Potts says: ‘We would phone agencies and ask them if they wanted to advertise on the internet and they would say, ‘What’s the internet?’.’ There is no such problem now. The internet is accepted as part of the business world. The company was well positioned to grow as internet usage boomed, and its sales increased 138% a year from £511,000 in 1997 to £6.9m in 2000, when it employed 140 people. Sales are forecast to double this year. GoJobsite claims to have become the largest multi-sector recruitment site in Britain, with 50,000 visitors a day. It has expanded into France, Germany, Italy, Ireland and Spain. The recruitment giant Manpower took a minority stake in the company in January last year.
