Chairman Laurence Graff, 80, founded this chain specialising in diamond jewellery in 1960 and opened his first store outside the UK in Monaco in 2000. It now has more than 50 shops on four continents, including newly opened stores in Paris, Macau and Singapore. These helped sales grow 28% to £538.2m in 2017, with profits nearly tripling to £56.5m. Last September, it acquired the largest gem-quality rough diamond to be discovered in more than 100 years, the Lesedi La Rona, for $53m (£41m).
