Set up in 1992 by chief executive Andrew Owens and chairman David Rees as a wholesale fuel supplier, Greenergy International’s sales are largely derived from supplying petrol and diesel to the likes of Tesco and bus companies. Recent growth stems from biofuel production, which will increase after the company begins biodiesel processing at its Humberside plant. Greenergy wants to expand biofuel production even further and to build power stations driven by renewable fuel, using cash raised after Barclays Capital took a 20% stake in May. Sales have risen 84% a year from £124.6m in 2003 to £774.8m in 2006.
