This company was once a bedroom start-up aiming to supply fuels and energy while minimising harm to the environment. Greenergy says it is Britain’s fastest-growing independent fuel supplier, selling 100m litres every week through the likes of Tesco and supplying more than half the biodiesel used around the country. It opened its first biodiesel plant in March last year, and has recently completed a second. Owned by its management, with Tesco and Barclays Capital holding minority stakes, the company reported sales of £1,754m in the year to March 2008 under co-founder and chief executive Andrew Owens.
