Potatoes are big business for Greenvale AP, which packs spuds in three state-of-the-art processing plants and transports them to retailers, caterers and food-processing companies around Britain. It had sales of £135.8m in the year to June 2005. Greenvale also supplies growers with disease-resistant branded seed potatoes and it makes dehydrated potato flakes. Management bought out the company from Dalgety in 1996, and since then it has made a series of acquisitions under its chief executive, Alan Owens.
