Fast Track 100

Professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts and military personnel in more than 100 countries consume Grenade’s sports performance and weight management bars and drinks. The Solihull firm was founded in 2009 by husband-and-wife team Alan, 42, and Juliet Barratt, 44. It launched its Carb Killa protein bars in 2015, which have proven so popular that the firm says they now outsell single Mars bars in UK grocers. Such demand encouraged the private equity firm Lion Capital to acquire a majority stake in the business in a £72m deal in 2017, with annual sales reaching £33.8m the same year. In August, it secured a deal with Marks & Spencer to sell Grenade products.
