Fast Track 100

Professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts and military personnel in more than 100 countries consume Grenade’s sports-performance and weight management bars and drinks. It is led by Alan Barratt, 43, who co-founded the Solihull firm in 2009. It launched its Carb Killa protein bars in 2015, which have proven so popular that the firm says they outsell single Mars bars in UK supermarkets. Such demand encouraged the private equity firm Lion Capital to acquire a majority stake in the business in a £72m deal in 2017 — a stake it is reportedly already looking to sell. Last year, Grenade’s sales increased to £44.2m after securing a deal with Marks & Spencer to sell its products.
