Widow Nellie Grocott started this Shropshire distribution and storage company as a cattle-transport business in 1941. Her son Ray is now chairman and his children, David and Linda, are joint managing directors. The company attributes its growth to long-term partnerships with food and drink groups, including Cadbury, Dairy Crest, Heinz, Müller, Cargill Meats, First Milk and Premier Foods, as well as investment in IT, which has improved efficiency. Despite pressure from rising fuel and energy prices, the company grew profits 43% each year, from £1.3m in 2007 to £3.8m in 2010.
