Ground Construction acts as a subcontractor for large building companies, focusing on concrete foundations, concrete frames and basements, as well as demolition, site clearance and drainage. Founded in 1997 by Trevor Diviney and Paddy Shanahan, the London company won its first £1m contract in 1999, and the following year secured a piece of work worth more than £2m. Ground Construction has raised its sales by more than 76% a year from an annualised £1.4m in 1999 to £7.5m in 2002. The partners hope that their children, some of whom are still at primary school, will eventually take over the business.
