Trading as G’s, this vegetable grower supplies leafy salads and fresh vegetables to the big supermarket chains. Based at Ely in Cambridgeshire, it also offers organic produce and a range of processed salads like celery and carrot snack pots with creamy dips, and beetroot cooked in red wine. In February 2005, chief executive John Shropshire sold the firm’s leafy salads facility to Geest and entered into a new supply partnership with that company. G’s is owned and controlled by the Shropshire family, and had sales of £186.3m in 2004, when it employed 4,742 staff.
