Profit Track 100

Inventor Nick Grey, 46, left Vax in 2001 to design his own cordless floor sweeper from his home office, funded by his savings. Taking on established brands like Dyson, Vax and Hoover, his company’s latest vacuums are cordless, lightweight and easy to use. The Worcester company, which sells a large proportion of its products directly online and by telephone, also makes cordless sweepers and garden tools. The popularity of its flagship AirRam vacuum has helped propel profits from £27,000 in 2011 to £6.5m last year.
